Maria Montessori Writes To Her Father - Nienhuis AMI
Maria Montessori Writes To Her Father - Nienhuis AMI
Maria Montessori organized the 1913 workshop in Rome in response to many requests from all over the world, but especially from the United States. This is the first course that has been specially designed to allow international students to benefit from a bilingual program.
While Montessori obviously taught in Italian, simultaneous translation into English was provided by two students: Zoe Bateman, who later became secretary of the Montessori Educational Association (USA) founded by parents impressed by Montessori's work that Miss George had started, and Emily Greenman, who was one of the first to express her interest in taking a course with Dr Montessori, if offered in the English language. The lectures in this 1913 course testify to Maria Montessori's passion as a human development thinker.
They show the depth of her journey as a medical doctor, anthropologist, philosopher and pedagogue, giving exciting insight into how she was influenced by her time, where she embraced new traditional ideas as inspiration and how she explored new directions.
