The brown staircase - Nienhuis AMI

This series of prisms demonstrates to the child the change in breadth (width), while the length remains constant. The practice of the brown staircase indirectly prepares the child for the concepts of plane geometry, area and volume. The prisms are manufactured in precise progressions from 1 x 1 x 20 cm to 10 x 10 x 20 cm.
