The ETC® Atom board - Nienhuis AMI

We are pleased to present our new revamped and retooled atomic map. Our atomic board is based on the Bohr model. This is a very attractive design that features scalloped "energy shells" symbolizing the different energy levels held by electrons and is etched directly into the solid one inch thick wood.

Redesigned, our board is now constructed entirely of solid basswood. Beautifully sculpted, it is wrapped in a semi-gloss clear varnish, then finished with a second coat of varnish. Once you touch the smooth finish of the board, you begin to understand the work that has gone into this new design.

No detail has been overlooked, from the front of the board to below, with the stabilizer bars, which are firmly screwed into the board and offset with even more stain and filler. The Bohr model describes the atom as a small, positively charged nucleus surrounded by electrons that move in a circular orbit around the nucleus. This structure is similar to that of the solar system, but electrostatic forces provide attraction, rather than gravity. Because of its simplicity and correct results for systems, the Bohr model is used to introduce students to quantum mechanics.

Students will be able to build the models of each known element of the periodic table and perform various "what if" scenarios. We now present our individual beads colored in red, blue and green. Each bead set includes 100 beads of each color, in individual clear boxes, for a total of 300 beads.

The Atom board includes:
- Teacher instruction and presentation lessons for various concepts
- the periodic table*, and
- a complete set of cards of all the elements for students to build atoms and explore additional concepts.
